Friday Five

One. It's Black Friday and I have not left the house. And no, I didn't go out Thanksgiving either. Well, I walked across the yard to my sister's for our family dinner.

Two. My nephew, Drew, drove up from his new home of Cincinnati. So happy he spent the holiday with us.

Three. I will be taking down my fall decorations today. I will hang my holiday wreath I made a few weeks ago. It's officially time for the Christmas season to begin.

Four. We had our first major snow dump. It looked more like Christmas than Thanksgiving yesterday.

Five. Our little munchkin, 28 months.

Our other little one, Cooper. He loves his neck warmer I knit for him.

Have a restful weekend!

Not Worried

Supposedly, we're to get a foot of snow. Had to run to the store for last minute Thanksgiving supplies. Picked this up to chase away the storm....or perhaps watch it go by.

Cheers!

Fun Find

On our shopping adventure yesterday, Linda and I braved the roads to Holland. We walked the streets of their downtown and checked out all the little quaint stores (no big box in downtown).

I happened upon the neated little dishcloth. Huh, you say.

Part sponge, part chamois—100% superabsorbent and durable!! These Swedish dishcloths far outperform sponges, paper towels and ordinary cloth. They soak up water to leave surfaces streak-free—no drying needed! Machine wash and use over and over. Cellulose/cotton. .Can wash in the dishwasher.

I used mine this morning....I'm going back to buy a few more and some as stocking stuffers! They are so cool!

They come in many different designs. Check them out online! Stay warm friends!

Friday Five

Hello my friends, family and followers......another end to a week!

One. Yesterday I wrote about Thanksgiving fare. Well, I made the Butterhorn Rolls. I'm here to tell you that they are easy to make AND they are fabulous. My husband, my sister and I all sampled one and they melt in your mouth. I have 44 of those babies in the freezer. Maggie already proclaimed no one can take any home if there are leftovers....she has dibs on them. Maybe she will give just one to our mother!

Two. Big news last night....

The Bywater's are having a baby girl.

JoJo will have a sister in April! Yay!!!

We love pink!

Three. In keeping with my new fitness plan, yesterday at the gym I finally was brave enough to get on the ellipitcal .....didn't last but five minutes....it's a killer but it's a start.

Four. This week I also took a Line Dancing class. Now that was kind of fun. Lots of footwork to get straight. The instructor told me I had good rhythm.

Five. Lunch with a high school friend today. (Trina). My sister-in-law and I will be running the roads together tomorrow. Shopping, frolicing, out for lunch and probably dinner...the guys ditched us!

Have a super weekend! Oh, I must get my three turkey decorations out this weekend! It's in six days!

Thanksgiving Prep

I know some folks think I'm a wee bit anal at times, but hey this works for me. I stay on track.

My Thanksgiving time Table

I have to make the rolls, jello salad, dressing, sweet potatoes and corn. Easy.

I found a new recipe for corn. It's called Confetti Corn. My sister usually makes scalloped corn and I must say, I always pass on it but everyone else loves it. We'll see how this goes over.

Mel's Kitchen cafe blog

Sweet Potatoes are martha Stewart's recipe. I'm not one of those that liked the whipped casserole that tastes like dessert. I peel and cut the potatoes into wedges and cook/ steam the sweet potatoes in orange juice and butter. After a bit they start to carmelize when i add the brown sugar. Then sprinkle with salt and pepper and grate with fresh orange zest.

The dressing is my mom's recipe. Traditional. Must make a lot...everyone loves it. Bread cubes, celery, onion, green pepper, chicken broth, salt and pepper.

The jello salad is a family tradition also. Orange jello with mandarin oranges and crushed pineapple. Top with lemon pudding with cool whip mixed in.

The rolls are going to be butterhorn rolls. Recipe from octoberfarm.blogspot.com

She's making 800 of these for the local food shelter. I think I can handle one batch of 48. Makes a lot.

So there you have it. My sister doing the turkey, potatoes and desserts. Now, she is the one that really NEEDS the timetable. Sorry, Mag but you do!

My Friday Five

One. I'm running with the big dogs now. I joined Costco this week. Looking forward to ditching my Sam's Club membership.

Two. Lynne and I went to Grand Rapids yesterday. We found an awesome Italian market. You wouldn't believe all the fabulous, fun homemade pastas and sauces they have.

I purchased the Butternut squash and Sage and the Asiago Cheese and oregano pasta. Can't wait to try them.

Three. My new to us favorite lunch spot in GR is the Electric Cheetah. Boy did we have an awesome sandwich there. It was the special and called "One Helluva Sandwich". And man, it was!

Pastrami, Swiss, Peppered Bacon, Hot Mustard, Saukerkraut

Four. Had some lab work done today. While there, I stopped and visited some gals in Administration that I used to work with. It's so nice to see them. Debbie started in the business office when I was working there. She said she has been at the hospital for 35 years now! WOW!

Five. Three quarters of our furniture arrives tomorrow. Wish I had a designer to help me arrange it...no clue where I will put things....probably end up doing the same ol' arrangement.

Hope your weekend is delightful.....

Early 1900’s piece. Belonged to my Grandmother Lundeen.

My mom recently gave it to me; a lovely pin to wear.

Thank you mother, it will be treasured.

Weekend in Review

Not too much going on around here. Lots of leaves falling. Temperatures are steadily dropping. It's dark so early....quarter to six last night. I couldn't wait to go to bed last night..it had been dark for so long.

Took a few nice, long walks over the weekend despite the cold. One actually warms up quickly once we get moving.

Here's a sneak peek of my new couch. Finally picked out some things I like. It's being delivered next week..a few things had to be ordered.

Tomorrow will be one long day. Working the polls! I have to get up in the middle of the night...5 a.m. haven,t seen that hour in a long, long time.

I found these little guys on Pinterest and thought they were so adorable. Trying to figure them out.

The hubby has a birthday on Wednesday. Fixing dinner and making a carrot cake..his favorite.

Today volunteering at the assisted living center and helping a friend....tutoring on how to make whole wheat baquettes.

Take care, my friends.

Five on Friday

One. No trick or treaters here. Weather was rainy and we live far off the road. The best treat ever was seeing this picture of my little JoJo on Facebook.

Two. Time to get serious....joined a fitness facility this week. Winter is around the corner and I know me....snow would be by excuse to not go out for a walk.

Three. Bit the bullet....ordered new furniture today and yes, my hubby is getting a recliner.

Four. Will be working the polls next Tuesday. One long day 6a.m to about 9 p.m.

Five. Fall back, my friends. Clocks go back an hour this weekend! Don't forget.

Enjoy your weekend.
